  • SUNSCREEN! SUNSCREEN IS CRUCIAL IN COLORADO, ESPECIALLY DURING WINTER

  • THE HIGHER ELEVATION TRULY INTENSIFIES THE EFFECTS OF THE SUN, CAUSING QUICKER BURNING

  • THE SNOW ALSO REFLECTS SUN IN EFFECT "DOUBLING" THE SUN YOU ARE EXPOSED TO

  • CHAPSTICK WITH SPF IS ALSO GREAT TO HAVE, AND THE DRY CLIMATE WILL HAVE YOU REACHING FOR IT KEEP YOUR LIPS HYDRATED AS WELL

     

STAY HYDRATED

  • WATER, WATER, WATER! DEHYDRATION HAPPENS MUCH MORE QUICKLY AT ALTITUDE, AND IN THE DRY CLIMATE OF COLORADO. REMEMBER TO DRINK LOTS OF WATER

  • IT IS RECOMMENDED YOU DRINK AT LEAST HALF YOUR BODY WEIGHT IN OUNCES EACH DAY TO MAINTAIN HYDRATION AT HIGHER ALTITUDES.*

  • YOU WILL SEE NATIVES CONSTANTLY CARRYING AROUND NALGENE AND OTHER LARGE WATER BOTTLES WITH THEM.

  • YOU MAY ALSO NOTICE, MANY HAVE STICKERS ALL OVER THEM, IT'S A "COLORADO" THING FOR SURE, AND WE COLLECT THEM EVERYWHERE WE TRAVEL AND PLACE THEM ON OUR WATER BOTTLES FOR SOME UNKNOWN REASON

AVOIDING BEING OVERLY INTOXICATED AND "HANGOVERS"

  • ALTITUDE ALSO GREATLY AMPLIFIES THE EFFECTS OF DRINKING ALCOHOL. IT IS SMART TO CALCULATE EACH DRINK YOU HAVE AS TWO WHEN YOU DRINK AT HIGH ELEVATION. SO ESSENTIALLY IF YOU ARE FROM SEA LEVEL EACH GLASS OF WINE WILL AFFECT YOUR BODY MORE LIKE YOU HAVE HAD TWO GLASSES OF WINE.

  • ONCE AGAIN HYDRATION, HYDRATION, HYDRATION! NATIVES WILL OFTEN ALTERNATE AN ALCOHOLIC DRINK WITH A LARGE GLASS OF WATER THROUGH OUT THE NIGHT TO HELP STAY HYDRATED

  • THE AIR AT HIGH ELEVATION IS LESS SATURATED WITH OXYGEN THAN LOWER ELEVATIONS, SO YOU MAY NOTICE YOU MAY FEEL WINDED MORE EASILY; OR YOUR HEART RATE RAISES MORE EASILY WHILE WORKING OUT ETC...A SLIGHT INCREASE IN BOTH BREATHING AND HEART RATE MAY BE EXPECTED,  BUT SHOULD YOU FEEL UNABLE TO CATCH YOUR BREATH, YOUR HEART RATE DOES NOT SLOW, OR YOU FEEL DIZZY,  OVERLY FATIGUED, OR JUST "NOT RIGHT" PLEASE SEEK MEDICAL ATTENTION

DRESS IN LAYERS

  • THE WEATHER MAY CHANGE QUITE A BIT DURING THE DAY, AND DURING WINTER TEMPERATURES CAN CHANGE VASTLY, AND QUICKLY.
